DON’T INTERPRET GOD’S WORK USING WORLDLY WAYS. (Mark 9:33-50)

Open Bible

I want to focus my sharing this morning on verses 33-50. In this particular passage we see 33b says that Jesus’ disciples were arguing among themselves about who was the greatest. Along the road they kept arguing with one another, about “Who was the greatest?” The reason why they kept arguing among themselves is because they thought Jesus will become a king like the other kings of this world.

See in John 6:15 “Jesus knew that they were coming to seize him and make him king by force; so he went off again to the hills by himself”. They interpreted Messiah as worldly king to deliver them from the Roman power. Based on their argument we can say that “Jesus’ disciples were using their worldly ways to interpret Jesus as Messiah”.

When things seem to go wrong what is your response?

There are many good examples in the Bible that we can learn from.

Below are some of them:

Moses, if we study about him we will discover a lot of things we cannot understand. Right from his birth until the time God called him, he went through many difficult times as well as many good times. Through his experience we can say that God allowed the various situations because God had a plan for him. He lived in a palace, in the desert and also worked as a shepherd. All of these things happened before God called him to lead His people out of Egypt.

Say yes and be positive in everything we do

To be positive in everything is not an easy thing to do. I have difficulties when things happen and are not according to my expectation. I struggle a lot and sometimes I blame myself. Nevertheless when I look back every single thing that I have encountered is good for my spiritual growth. I begin to appreciate all of it, without blaming anyone. Because each experience makes me more Christ-like. See in James 1:2-4 “Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything”.
